European Parliament Sakharov Fellowship 2026 Details
The European Parliament Sakharov Fellowship is a short-term training program for human rights defenders. The program focuses on strengthening participants’ knowledge of human rights, advocacy, and engagement with European institutions.
The fellowship runs for two weeks and takes place in Brussels, Belgium, and another EU Member State. All costs, including return airfare, lodging, and food, are paid, and there is no application fee. In order to strengthen human rights worldwide, the fellowship seeks to enhance the abilities of human rights defenders and offer comprehensive training on EU and international human rights frameworks, policies, and processes.
The Sakharov Fellowship is not a prize for human rights accomplishments, in contrast to the Sakharov Prize. It seeks to strengthen human rights defenders’ ability to promote and implement improvements to human rights. Participants take part in workshops, meetings, and exchanges with Members of the European Parliament, EU officials, and human rights experts.
Applications must be submitted through the official online fellowship application form provided by the European Parliament.
