Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) 2025/2026 Details
The JADS Program is part of a broader plan to build human resource capacity in Africa. It aligns with the AfDB’s High 5 priorities, which include:

This scholarship targets smart and motivated African graduates who have a strong academic background and experience working in areas relevant to their country’s development. Scholars are expected to return home after graduation to apply their knowledge to real-life challenges in Africa.
JADS scholarships are not open to everyone. Applicants must first secure admission to an approved master’s degree program at a JADS partner university, either in Japan or Africa. Only those endorsed by these universities will be considered for funding.

Eligibility Requirements for the Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) 2025/2026
To apply for the Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) 2025/2026, you must:
- Be a citizen of one of the African Development Bank’s regional member countries.
- Have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in fields like energy, agriculture, health, environmental science, engineering, or other related areas.
- Have at least 1 year of paid employment in your home country or another African country after your bachelor’s degree within the last 3 years.
- Be 35 years old or younger and in good health.
- Have excellent academic records and professional experience relevant to your chosen field.
- Be admitted into an approved master’s program at a JADS partner university in Japan or Africa.
- Not be enrolled in any other graduate program.
- Not be an Executive Director, staff, or close relative of a staff member of the African Development Bank.
Note: Admission into a university doesn’t automatically mean you will receive the scholarship. The final award decision comes from the JADS Secretariat.

Here’s how to apply for the Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) 2025/2026:
1. Check Your Eligibility
Make sure you meet all the eligibility criteria, including academic background, age, work experience, and citizenship.
2. Apply to a JADS Partner University
- Visit the list of JADS partner universities and eligible courses.
- Apply directly to the university and gain admission into a master’s degree program.
3. Get Endorsed
- If accepted, your university will endorse your application and forward it to the JADS Secretariat for scholarship consideration.
4. Await Selection
- The African Development Bank will evaluate your application based on academic merit, financial need, commitment to development, gender balance, and geographical diversity.
- If selected, you will be contacted officially by the AfDB or JADS Secretariat.
