University of Rwanda Mastercard Foundation Scholarship 2025/2026 Details
The University of Rwanda, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is offering full undergraduate scholarships for African students through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. This 10-year initiative (2021–2031) is aimed at supporting 1,400 bright and passionate young Africans, especially:
- Females pursuing STEM fields
- Young people with disabilities
- Refugees and displaced youth
This scholarship goes beyond just paying for school—it’s about helping students grow into leaders who will bring change to their communities and the continent at large.
Scholars will study in one of seven colleges across five campuses of the University of Rwanda:
- Colleges: Science & Technology, Medicine & Health Sciences, Agriculture & Food Sciences, Business & Economics, Education, Arts & Social Sciences, Veterinary Medicine & Animal Sciences
- Campuses: Nyarugenge, Huye, Rukara, Busogo, and Nyagatare
Applicants must first be admitted into one of these colleges before being considered for the scholarship.

Eligibility Requirements for the 2025/2026 University of Rwanda Mastercard Foundation Scholarship
To be eligible for the Mastercard Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship at the University of Rwanda, applicants must:
- Be an African citizen (including Rwandans, refugees, and displaced youth)
- Be 28 years or younger (or 30 years with certified proof of difficult life circumstances like being a refugee, single mother, or part of a child-headed household)
- Be academically qualified with limited access to higher education opportunities
- Meet the admission requirements of the University of Rwanda
- Have already applied to the University of Rwanda and obtained a reference number
- Show a strong commitment to leadership and community service
- Be ready to give up any other scholarships if selected
- Submit all required documents and proof of refugee/disability status (if applicable)
