University of York GREAT Scholarship 2026/2027 Details

The GREAT Scholarship programme is a well-known UK initiative run by the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign. It works with 71 universities across the UK to support international students who want to study a one-year postgraduate course in a wide range of subjects.

At the University of York, there are four scholarships available for the 2026/2027 academic year. These are open to students from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Kenya.

Each scholarship is worth £10,000 and goes directly toward reducing your tuition fees. The number of scholarships for each country is limited; each country will have one.

Winners will be chosen through a competitive process. To stand a good chance, you’ll need a strong academic background and well-written answers in your scholarship application. Having a first-class degree (or equivalent) is highly preferred.

To be eligible for the University of York GREAT Scholarship 2026, you must:

• Be a citizen and resident of one of the eligible countries: China (mainland only), Greece, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, or Vietnam
• Have a conditional or unconditional offer to study a one-year postgraduate taught programme at the University of York by 11 May 2026
• Be paying fees at the overseas rate, with any fee status assessment completed by 11 May 2026
• Have met any English language conditions of your offer by 11 May 2026

Ineligible Applicants

You are not eligible if you:

• Already hold a 100% tuition fee scholarship or are fully sponsored
• Are a current University of York student who began studies in a previous year
• Are enrolled in:

  • International Pathway College
  • Distance/online learning courses
  • Part-time courses
  • Kaplan International College London
  • MA Public Policy (Mundus MAPP)
