Italian Government MAECI Scholarships 2026/2027 Details
The Italian Government MAECI Scholarship is designed to strengthen international cooperation and also academic exchange by providing financial support to outstanding international students who wish to study or conduct research in Italy.
This scholarship supports various academic programs, including Master’s degrees, PhD programs, research projects, and Italian language and culture courses at public or legally recognized private Italian institutions. Award for the scholarship is only for on-site study in Italy and cannot be used for online programs. Available scholarship categories include:
- Master’s Degree Programs (Laurea Magistrale) – 9 months, renewable
- Higher Education for Fine Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) – 9 months, renewable

Scholarships reserved for Italian citizens living abroad (IRE) are offered exclusively to students holding only Italian citizenship and exclusively for the following countries, where they must be resident: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Kenya, Lebanon, Morocco, Peru, United Kingdom, Senegal, Spain, South Africa, Tunisia, Uruguay, and
Venezuela.
Holders of dual citizenship (Italian and foreign) may apply only through the selection process of the
foreign beneficiary country, indicating their foreign citizenship in the “Citizenship” field on the Study
in Italy portal.
Holders of multiple foreign citizenships may also apply for only one selection process, choosing one of
the beneficiary countries of which they are citizens, and must indicate the citizenship of the selected

Eligibility Requirements for the Italian Government MAECI Scholarships 2026/2027
To qualify for the Italian Government Scholarship 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must hold a valid passport or identity document.
- Applicants must possess the academic qualification required for the selected program.
- Applicants must meet the age requirements depending on the program:
- Maximum 28 years for Master’s and AFAM programs
- Maximum 30 years for PhD programs
- Maximum 40 years for research projects

- B2 level in English for English-taught programs
- Applicants must not already hold a degree from an Italian institution in Italy.
