2026 Jefferson Fellowships Details
The theme for this years Jefferson fellowship is : New Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence Navigating AI’s Impacts on Societies and Economic Security in the Asia-Pacific Region. This is a three-week program scheduled from October 25 – November 12, 2026
The fellowship will explore both the opportunities and challenges of AI in the Indo-Pacific region and it also promotes journalist-to-journalist exchange and networking.
AI is expected to drive economic growth and improve sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, farming, finance, and disaster preparedness. However, concerns include job displacement, inequality between economies, data privacy, surveillance, and social and cultural impacts.
Destinations
Fellows will visit:
- Honolulu
- Tokyo
- Seoul
Participants will interview experts and leaders in government, NGOs, and business. Visits include healthcare facilities, laboratories, schools, AI-driven factories, chip makers, and AI farms.

Eligibility Requirements for the 2026 Jefferson Fellowships
- Be full-time journalists
- Work in the Indo-Pacific region (including the United States)
- Have at least 5 years of professional journalism experience
- Have professional fluency in English
- Clearly explain how the theme relates to their coverage area
- Demonstrate how participation will benefit their audience
- Preference is given to journalists who plan to produce content during and after the fellowship.
