Miles Morland Writing Scholarships 2025 For Africans Details

Every year, the Miles Morland Foundation (MMF) awards scholarships to four African writers to help them work on their books without worrying about finances.

The scholarship runs for 12 months (or up to 18 months for non-fiction writers who need extra research time). During that period, each selected writer (known as a Scholar) is expected to submit 10,000 new words every month, with the goal of completing a full-length book of at least 80,000 words.

This scholarship is not just financial—it gives writers the freedom to focus entirely on their creative process. Scholars also get access to mentorship opportunities with established authors or publishers after completing their book.

Applicants must submit a published writing sample, a detailed book proposal, and a brief personal bio. If shortlisted, you’ll also be required to send a sample chapter of your proposed book.

Note: The MMF does not accept entries for plays, poetry, children’s books, scripts, or short story collections. Only full-length adult fiction or non-fiction books are eligible.
