The Ellison Scholars programme gives exceptional students the chance to pursue any undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford with full financial support. Scholars collaborate with each other and with world-leading experts to solve real-world problems, while pursuing a fully-funded undergraduate degree in any discipline at one of the world’s top universities – the University of Oxford. Scholars also take part in summer internships led by the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT), where they contribute to innovative projects aimed at addressing major global problems.

They are particularly interested in students with skills in fields such as computer science, artificial intelligence, economics, mathematics, robotics, plant sciences, machine learning, chemistry, biology, engineering, medicine or microbiology. This list is not exhaustive and strong candidates who believe they have skills that would benefit one of our projects are welcome to apply.

Internships for undergraduate Ellison Scholars

For ten weeks of each “long vacation” (summer) between academic years, undergraduate Ellison Scholars will work with EIT teams on existing EIT programs that aim to solve big global problems through science and technology. Those internship projects will span one or more of the following humane endeavours, which provide focus areas for what EIT is trying to solve:

  • Health, Medical Science & Generative Biology
  • Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture
  • Climate Change & Managing Atmospheric CO2
  • Artificial Intelligence & Robotics

Scholars will bring their relevant skills, experiences or interests in areas such as AI & data, economics & policy, generative biology, robotics, engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, computer science, mathematics, medicine and law into the internship projects.engineering, economics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, robotics, medicine, or related fields. However, students from any discipline are welcome if their background aligns with the programme’s mission.

How to Apply for the University of Oxford Ellison Undergraduate Scholars Program 2027

  • Step 1: Check Eligibility: Before applying, make sure you meet all international qualification requirements academic, language, and course requirements for Oxford. Use the University of Oxford admissions page to check your qualifications.
  • Find your preferred undergraduate course
  • Step 2: Apply for the Ellison Scholars Programme: Apply through the Ellison Scholars application portal.
  • Step 3: Semi-Finalist Stage (September – October 2026): Shortlisted candidates will be invited to apply to the University of Oxford through its independent admissions process.
  • Step 4: Finalist Stage (January – February 2027): Applicants who receive an offer from Oxford will move to the finalist round and be interviewed by EIT Fellows.
  • Step 5: Selection (March – April 2027): Final scholars are selected, supported through onboarding, and announced publicly.
  • Step 6: Begin Studies (October 2027): Scholars arrive in Oxford and begin their academic journey and innovation internships.
