University of York GREAT Scholarship 2025/2026 Details
The GREAT Scholarship programme is a well-known UK initiative run by the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign. It works with 71 universities across the UK to support international students who want to study a one-year postgraduate course in a wide range of subjects.
At the University of York, there are eight scholarships available for the 2025/26 academic year. These are open to students from China, Greece, Indonesia, Malaysia (Justice and Law courses only), Nigeria, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Each scholarship is worth £10,000 and goes directly toward reducing your tuition fees. The number of scholarships for each country is limited—China will have two, and the other countries will each have one.
Winners will be chosen through a competitive process. To stand a good chance, you’ll need a strong academic background and well-written answers in your scholarship application. Having a first-class degree (or equivalent) is highly preferred.

University of York GREAT Scholarship 2025/2026 Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the University of York GREAT Scholarship 2025, you must:
- Be a citizen and resident of one of the eligible countries: China (mainland only), Greece, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, or Vietnam
- Have a conditional or unconditional offer to study a one-year postgraduate taught programme at the University of York by 16 May 2025
- Be paying fees at the overseas rate, with any fee status assessment completed by 16 May 2025
- Have met any English language conditions of your offer by 16 May 2025

Applicants from Malaysia are eligible only if applying to one of the following programmes:

- Already hold a 100% tuition fee scholarship or are fully sponsored
- Are a current University of York student who began studies in a previous year
