The GCUB-Mob scholarship programme directly supports three of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It promotes SDG 4 — Quality Education by expanding access to postgraduate studies for international students at Brazilian universities. It advances SDG 10 — Reduced Inequalities by creating meaningful academic opportunities for students from developing countries and underrepresented regions. And it strengthens SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals by stimulating international scientific cooperation and building cross-border research networks.

Scholarship holders are integrated into their host universities as full students, with access to the same facilities, classes, libraries, laboratories, and services available to Brazilian postgraduate students. The degree obtained is officially recognised in Brazil, and scholars are expected to return to their country of origin to apply their knowledge and contribute to the development of their home regions.

Selection Process

The GCUB-Mob selection process takes place across three eliminatory phases:

Phase 1 — Document Consistency Analysis: A GCUB-appointed committee reviews all submitted applications for completeness and compliance. Incomplete applications or those submitted after the deadline are automatically eliminated.

Phase 2 — Merit and Eligibility Analysis: Approved applications are forwarded to the host universities chosen by the applicant. Each institution reviews the applications and returns a pre-approval or rejection decision to GCUB.

Phase 3 — Final Classification: An Advisory Evaluation Committee of PhD-level academics and professors makes final decisions on vacancy allocation, taking into account geographical distribution, the Human Development Index (HDI) of the applicant’s country, gender balance, and the candidate’s ranked programme preferences.

Results are published on the GCUB official website, and all applicants are informed of the outcome in writing following the end of the selection process.
