Service Commitments and Bond Requirements

- Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents: There is no service commitment requirement whatsoever. Scholars are free to pursue their careers in any organisation or field of their choosing after completing the programme.
- International Students (Non-Singaporeans): A 3-year service commitment in a Singapore-based company is required after the completion of the PhD. Importantly, there is no commitment to any specific employer or organisation — scholars have complete flexibility in choosing where to work. The area of work should preferably fall within computing and information science disciplines. Singapore-based companies include both local firms and international companies with a registered presence in Singapore under the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).
- Bond Requirements: There are no specific bond requirements for any category of applicant.

The application process for the ACIS Scholarship runs in parallel with the NUS PhD admission cycle. Here is how to apply:
- Await results — successful candidates will be notified and their choice of PhD supervisor, research project, and university will be subject to final approval by A*STAR
- Choose your intake — the scholarship accepts applications for two intakes per year: August (Semester 1) and January (Semester 2)
- Apply for PhD admission at NUS — applicants must concurrently submit their PhD admission application to the National University of Singapore alongside their ACIS scholarship application
- Select your research supervisor — review the list of ASTAR-approved supervisors available on the ASTAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS) webpage under the “Research Areas and Supervisors” tab. If your preferred supervisor is not listed, contact them directly to discuss potential research projects
- Prepare your application documents, which must include: at least 2 referee reports, a description of your proposed research area, and all academic credentials
- Submit GRE scores (optional) if available, to strengthen your application
- Attend interviews — shortlisted candidates will go through at least 2 rounds of interviews involving senior leadership from ASTAR’s Biomedical Research Council or Science and Engineering Research Council, as well as researchers from ASTAR’s Research Entities
