METI Japan Internship Program 2025 Details
The METI Japan Internship Program 2025 is a global initiative by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan. It’s designed to bring international students and professionals into Japanese companies for short-term internships. The goal is to promote global collaboration, strengthen cross-border business expansion, and give interns the chance to play active roles within Japanese organisations.
This fully funded internship offers a unique opportunity for talented students and skilled professionals to gain hands-on experience with Japanese companies across various sectors. It’s also a chance to explore Japanese culture, broaden your perspective on work, and grow both personally and professionally. The program is open to citizens of developing countries (excluding the People’s Republic of China) who are between 18 and 40 years old as of August 25, 2025.
The METI Internship is flexible. Candidates can choose to participate either in person or online. Interns also receive extensive support, including a daily living allowance (¥1,000 for online interns and ¥3,000 for onsite interns), round-trip airfare, visa assistance, accommodation, work gadgets, and transportation to the company.

METI Japan Internship Program 2025 Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the METI Japan Internship 2025, applicants must:
- Be citizens of a country listed as eligible on the OECD/DAC list (excluding the People’s Republic of China).
- Be 20–40 years old as of August 25, 2025.
- Must genuinely support the purpose of this program, which is to help Japanese companies grow globally, connect with international talemastnt and build strong ties with overseas universities through internships.
- Must be proficient in English or Japanese. A Japanese language level equivalent to JLPT N3 or higher is preferred.
- Applicants must be able to submit relevant qualification documents such as IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, CEFR, or JLPT scores.
Applicants should either be: - A student currently enrolled in a higher institution (junior college, technical college, university, etc.) or a recent graduate of one.
If you’re a student, you’ll need to provide: - A certificate of enrollment and a letter of recommendation from your university or a faculty member.
- Graduates will be required to submit a graduation certificate and a recommendation letter from their institution.
- Must meet any additional requirements stated by the host company you’re applying to.
- Must not have participated in the METI Internship Program between FY2016 and FY2024.
- Must not have secured full-time employment yet, or seeking employment opportunities in Japan.
