Arrell Food Institute Scholarships 2026 Details

The Arrell Food Institute Scholarships are funded by The Arrell Family Foundation.

Three scholarships are awarded each year.

Each award is valued at:

  • $50,000 per year
  • For up to two years
  • Paid in three equal instalments per year at the beginning of each semester

The scholarship is awarded in the fall. Recipients must be registered full-time to receive payment.

The scholarship supports master’s students whose research focuses on agriculture and food systems.

Research must align with the mission of the Arrell Food Institute, which includes:

  • Producing healthy and nutritious food
  • Growing the economy
  • Reducing environmental and social impacts in agri-food systems

Recipients will be known as Arrell Scholars.

Award recipients are expected to:

  • Register for UNIV*6050 (a winter semester course in their first year) or complete an approved equivalent experiential learning opportunity
  • Contribute time equivalent to the coursework toward collaborative, interdisciplinary Arrell Food Institute projects
  • Maintain full-time registration
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress

Students may transfer to a doctoral program with prior approval. However, funding will only cover the original master’s award timeframe.

This scholarship cannot be held together with certain major scholarships, including Ontario Graduate Scholarships, Trillium Scholarships, Trudeau Doctoral Scholarship, and Tri-Council Scholarships (including Vanier).

Deferral of the award may be considered for one year with proper approval.

Eligibility Requirements for the Arrell Food Institute Scholarships 2026

  • Must be entering a full-time Master’s program in the fall semester following the application deadline
  • Must be supervised or co-supervised by one of the Arrell Food Institute Chairs
  • Must have a minimum first-class (A-) admission average
  • Must have applied for admission to an eligible graduate program by April 15
  • Must submit all transcripts and referee assessments by the deadline
  • Research must align with the Arrell Food Institute mission
  • Must maintain full-time registration and satisfactory progress
  • Open to Canadian-PR-PP and Non-Canadian-PR-PP students
