The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) offers fully funded Master’s scholarships for talented young Africans, especially women, refugees, displaced persons, and persons with disabilities who want to make a real difference in healthcare and education across the continent. Over the next ten years, this partnership will support 500 scholars to pursue master’s degrees in Global Health Delivery (MGHD) and Health Professions Education (MHPE), two programs designed to build the next generation of leaders driving equity, innovation, and access in Africa’s health systems.

The Mastercard Foundation has partnered with the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) for a 10-year program to empower 500 African scholars through master’s degrees in:

  • Master of Science in Global Health Delivery (MGHD)
  • Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MHPE)

These programs equip students with leadership, entrepreneurial, and academic skills to solve real-world challenges in healthcare delivery and education. Scholars will engage in hands-on learning, mentorship, and research opportunities that address Africa’s most pressing health issues, such as access, governance, and innovation.

After graduation, scholars receive internship placements and ongoing support to implement impactful projects in their home countries. They also join a powerful alumni network connected through both UGHE and the Mastercard Foundation.

Eligibility Requirements for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at UGHE 2026

To qualify for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UGHE, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a citizen or resident of an African country (refugees and displaced persons within Africa are eligible).
  • Must be under or at 35 years of age at the time of admission.
  • Must have completed an undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • Must show academic excellence and leadership potential, especially in driving positive change in their communities.
  • Must have faced significant barriers to accessing higher education (social, financial, personal, or health-related).
  • Must be committed to community service, health equity, and ethical leadership.
  • Those with dual citizenship or permanent residency outside Africa are not eligible.

UGHE strongly encourages applications from young women, refugees, displaced youth, and persons with disabilities.
