MIT Knight Science Journalism Fellowship 2026 Details
The MIT Knight Science Journalism Fellowship 2026 supports in-depth, high-impact professional development for mid-career journalists who report on science, technology, health, or the environment. The goal is straightforward: MIT aims to help science journalists strengthen their expertise, expand their reporting skills, and gain deeper insight into the scientific and technological issues shaping the world.
The fellowship lasts nine months, during which each selected journalist designs and works on an independent journalism project while gaining full access to MIT’s resources. Fellows also engage with leading researchers, attend specialized seminars, and audit courses at MIT, Harvard, and other partner institutions. The experience is crafted to sharpen their storytelling, deepen scientific understanding, and elevate the quality of their reporting.

Eligibility Requirements for the MIT Knight Science Journalism Fellowship 2026
To be considered for the MIT Knight Science Journalism Fellowship 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a full-time journalist; working in print, digital, audio, video, or multimedia. Freelancers are eligible if journalism is their primary source of income.
- Have at least three consecutive years of professional experience covering science, health, technology, or environmental topics.
- Work produced must reflect strong reporting skills, accuracy, and a clear focus on science or science-related fields.
- Be able to take a full academic year away from daily newsroom duties, as fellows must commit fully to the nine-month residency program in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- Not have completed a long-term fellowship (4+ months) within the last two years prior to applying.
- Be proficient in English, as all seminars, courses, and workshops are conducted in English.
- Applicants from all countries are eligible, but international fellows must be able to obtain a U.S. J-1 visa if selected.
