Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship 2026–2027 Details

The Aga Khan Foundation’s International Scholarship Programme is designed to help students from selected countries study at postgraduate level when they do not have other ways to fund their education. The programme was established in 1969 and offers a limited number of awards each year through a competitive process.

The scholarship supports postgraduate studies. Priority is given to Master’s programmes, but PhD applications are also considered. For Master’s students, the scholarship is granted for the full duration of the degree. For PhD students, funding is provided for the first two years, after which students are expected to find other sources of funding.

The award is structured as half grant and half loan. This means 50 percent of the award amount must be repaid. The support covers tuition and student living expenses, but it does not cover costs such as international travel, clothing, furniture, or living expenses for family members.

The programme is available in several countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Kenya, the Kyrgyz Republic, Madagascar, Mozambique, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, and Uganda. In Canada, Portugal, and the USA, applications are accepted only from people originally from one of these countries. At this time, the programme is not available for students who want to study in the United Kingdom or Russia.
