The SOAS University of London Teaching Scholarships 2026 provide full financial support for students enrolling in a full-time MPhil/PhD programme beginning in the 2026/27 academic year.

Eligibility Requirements for the SOAS University of London Teaching Scholarships 2026

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be applying for a full-time MPhil/PhD programme at SOAS for the 2026/27 academic year
  • Be permanent residents in the UK from eligible Black ethnic groups (Black African, Black Caribbean, Black British or Mixed Black backgrounds) or
  • Be ordinarily resident in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East
  • Have received an offer of admission for an eligible research programme at SOAS before the scholarship selection process
  • Meet the English language requirement of the admission offer by 10 May 2026 if applicable
  • Not hold another major scholarship or studentship at the same time
  • Provide a widening participation statement (maximum 800 words) explaining eligibility and academic motivation

Additional eligibility:

  • Students who are members of the SOAS Ebony Initiative may also apply for related studentships
  • One scholarship is reserved for an applicant who is a Palestinian national and ordinarily resident in historic Palestine
