UBC Public Scholars Initiative (PSI) Award 2025/2026 Details
The UBC Public Scholars Initiative (PSI) Award 2025/2026 is designed to help doctoral students integrate broader, career-relevant forms of scholarship into their academic journey. Students can receive up to $10,000 twice (totaling up to $20,000 per student) to support research, professional development, travel, or stipend needs that would otherwise not be funded.
Each year, funding is awarded to approximately 30 new scholars from UBC Vancouver and around 5 scholars from UBC Okanagan. Scholars selected will also be eligible to apply for a second year of renewal funding.
The 2025/2026 cohort includes a continued focus on health equity through the Health Equity Stream (HES). Supported in partnership with UBC Health, the HES aims to fund students whose work addresses local, national, or global health issues and seeks to impact health equity. Applicants interested in the HES should elaborate on their interest and work in the public scholarship section of the application.
Applications for the Health Equity Stream will be submitted using the same process as general PSI applications.

Further Information
All Public Scholars are expected to participate actively in PSI programming as much as they are able. Renewal funding is often dependent on the scholarβs engagement with their cohort and PSI activities. This is especially important for scholars selected under the Health Equity Stream (HES), as the HES programming is tailored to meet the specific needs of this limited group. Active participation is crucial to the success of the Health Equity Stream.
