The RMIT University Research Scholarships 2025-2026 is a highly competitive, fully funded opportunity for research students across all academic disciplines. These scholarships are centrally administered by the university and provide full financial support for both domestic and international students pursuing either a Master’s by Research or a PhD.

Applicants are classified as:

  • Domestic Students: Australian citizens, permanent residents, New Zealand citizens, or holders of a permanent humanitarian visa.
  • International Students: All other nationalities on student or temporary visas.

Eligibility Requirements for the RMIT University Research Scholarships 2025-2026

General Requirements:

  • You must meet RMIT’s research admission standards.
  • International students must also meet English language requirements.
  • You need a strong academic record and the capacity to carry out independent research.
  • You must have an academic staff member agree to supervise your research.

For Master’s by Research:

  • A 4-year bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with an honours component (minimum 25% research).
  • Must have at least a Credit average (60%) in your final year.

For PhD:

Any of the following:

  • A 4-year honours bachelor’s degree with at least a Distinction average (70% or higher).
  • A master’s degree with a research component (25% minimum) and Distinction average.
  • A coursework-based master’s with High Distinction (80% or higher).
  • Other qualifications and experience that show research potential.
