The NHR Alliance Graduate School in Germany offers fully-funded PhD scholarships to international students who want to pursue research in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and related fields. The National High Performance Computing (NHR) Alliance brings together nine top research centers in Germany, all affiliated with reputable universities that specialize in high-performance computing, AI/ML, and numerical simulation.

Each year, the NHR Graduate School offers up to nine fully-funded PhD scholarships for international students interested in advancing research in these fields. Each selected student will work under the guidance of world-class researchers, receive cutting-edge training, and gain experience across multiple research environments in Germany.

Eligibility Requirements for the NHR Scholarship 2026 in Germany

To apply for the NHR Scholarship 2026 in Germany, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You have a master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, engineering, or a closely related field.
  • You meet the doctoral admission requirements of the specific NHR Center where you wish to study.
  • You can demonstrate English language proficiency through prior education or an accepted language test (see “Required Documents”).
  • You are open to collaborating across multiple research institutions in Germany and willing to take part in advanced research training.

Required Documents for the NHR Scholarship 2026 in Germany

When applying for the NHR Scholarship 2026 in Germany, you must submit all of the following documents via the online application form. Incomplete applications or email submissions will not be considered.

  1. Online Application Form
    Submit your application via this link by September 15, 2025.
  2. Letter of Motivation (1–2 pages)
    Describe your academic background, professional goals, and reasons for applying.
  3. Curriculum Vitae (Max 2 pages)
    Include your education, achievements, research experiences, and publications (if any).
  4. Research Statement (1–2 pages)
    Outline the research area you’re interested in, potential supervisors, and which NHR Center(s) fit your project.
  5. Academic Transcripts and Degree Certificate
    Provide your master’s degree certificate and academic transcripts. Include official translations if not in English or German.
  6. Proof of English Proficiency
    Submit one of the following:
    • Proof that you studied in English, or
    • TOEFL iBT (min. 79), IELTS (min. 6.5), or Cambridge (C1/C2 minimum 180)
  7. Letter of Recommendation
