National Health Fellows Programme 2025 Details

The National Health Fellows Programme is an initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria, led through the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (SWAp) Coordination Office under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

The programme is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s primary healthcare system by empowering young professionals with the skills, experience, and exposure needed to drive sustainable improvements in public health delivery.

Through this initiative, the Federal Government seeks to upgrade existing primary healthcare centres (PHCs) and construct over 8,800 new PHCs across all 774 local government areas in the country. This large-scale effort aims to ensure accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services for Nigerians at the grassroots level.

In addition, the programme introduces new social accountability mechanisms to promote transparency, community participation, and improved service delivery within the health sector.

Eligibility Requirements for the National Health Fellows Programme 2025

To qualify for the National Health Fellows Programme 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be a Nigerian citizen.
• Be between the ages of 25 and 35 years.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, Information Technology, or the Social Sciences.
• Show demonstrable interest or experience in public health, health-related NGOs or partner organisations, or community projects that reflect leadership and initiative.
• Be available to participate full-time in the 12-month fellowship programme.
• Be an indigene of the state they are applying to serve in.
• Possess a smartphone with data capability (for communication via WhatsApp, Zoom, etc).
• Provide a recommendation letter from either their University Dean, NYSC place of primary assignment, or a respected organisation attesting to their character and leadership qualities.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and entrepreneurial drive.
