The Scout Adventures Residential Volunteering Programme invites individuals aged 18+ from the UK and around the world to join as activity instructors, supporting outdoor adventure and youth-group experiences at Scout Adventure centres across the UK. It’s a chance to volunteer full-time in a dynamic, multicultural environment while gaining real instructing and outdoor-education experience.

Volunteers serve as outdoor activity instructors helping to deliver a variety of activities to youth groups visiting Scout Adventure centres. Volunteers live on-site, with accommodation and meals provided. The programme allows you to work alongside over 100 volunteers from around the world, giving you exposure to diverse cultures and a strong community environment.

Initial training is provided at the start, a practical 5-day induction course (usually at Gilwell Park) to equip you with instructing skills, first aid, safeguarding, and familiarity with centre operations. After training, you head to your assigned centre for ongoing mentoring and activity training.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older at the start of placement.
  • Must speak English well enough to instruct and communicate effectively.
