US Government TechGirls Summer Exchange Program 2026 Details
The TechGirls Summer Exchange Program 2026 is a 23-day immersive experience hosted in the United States. The TechGirls program has expanded globally, engaging a talented cadre of STEM-minded young women from the United States and select countries in all six regions of the world (Western Hemisphere, Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe and Eurasia, East Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, and South and Central Asia).
The core of the TechGirls program is a few-day experience in the United States. In partnership with Virginia Tech, participants engage in hands-on STEM learning, an interactive TechCamp that provides an in-depth examination of cutting-edge technologies, leadership development, cultural exchange activities, and professional exposure.
Key components of the program include:
- Interactive STEM and technology workshops
- Leadership and personal development training
- Cultural exchange and community immersion
- Mentorship with women in STEM fields
- Career exploration and job-shadowing opportunities
- A post-program community impact project supported by mentors
The program also includes a seven-month follow-on mentorship phase after participants return to their home countries.

Eligibility Requirements for the US Government TechGirls Summer Exchange Program 2026
To be eligible for the US Government TechGirls Summer Exchange Program 2026, applicants must:
- Be female
- Be a citizen and current resident of one of the eligible countries/territories and be living there at the time of the exchange. Eligible Countries/Territories include:
- Sub-Saharan Africa (AF): Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Zambia
- East Asia and Pacific (EAP): Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Mongolia, Taiwan, Vietnam
- Europe and Eurasia (EUR): Albania, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, Türkiye
- Middle East and North Africa (NEA): Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Tunisia
- South and Central Asia (SCA): Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan
- Western Hemisphere (WHA): Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Suriname
- United States of America
- Be between 15 and 17 years old at the start of the exchange on July 11, 2026
- Born between July 13, 2007, and July 13, 2010
- Have demonstrated advanced skills and a strong interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics)
- Intend to pursue higher education and/or a career in STEM, especially in technology
- Have strong English language skills (advanced intermediate level)
- Exhibit maturity, flexibility, and open-mindedness
- Be willing to attend at least one additional semester of secondary school after returning home
- Be committed to completing a community-based project after the exchange
- Meet U.S. J-1 visa eligibility requirements (note: U.S. citizens are not eligible for a J-1 visa)
- Have limited or no prior experience in the United States (preference given)
- Not have participated in any U.S. Department of State (ECA) exchange program within the last three years
Additional Notes:
- Eligible candidates must be citizens and residents of participating countries
- Third-country nationals permanently living in an eligible country should contact the program organizers to confirm eligibility before applying
- Family members of U.S. Embassy or Consulate staff, U.S. Department of State employees, and family members of the administering or partner organizations are not eligible to apply.
