Japanese Government MEXT Teacher Training Scholarship 2026 Details
The MEXT Teacher Training Scholarship is offered by the Japanese government to strengthen international cooperation in education. It targets experienced teachers who wish to conduct research on school education, teaching methods, curriculum development, and educational administration in Japan.
The program is not a degree program. Successful applicants will undergo specialized training at Japanese universities listed in the official Course Guide for the Teacher Training Program. Courses may be conducted in Japanese or English, depending on the university and program selected.
Applicants with limited Japanese language ability may be required to undergo Japanese language training for up to six months at the beginning of the program. At the end of the training, participants receive a certificate of completion, not an academic degree.

Eligibility Requirements for the Japanese Government MEXT Teacher Training Scholarship 2026
To be eligible for the MEXT Teacher Training Scholarship 2026, applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
- Be a citizen of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan
- Not hold Japanese nationality at the time of application
- Be born on or after April 2, 1991
- Have graduated from a university or teacher training institution
- Have at least five years of teaching experience at a primary or secondary school or teacher training institution by October 1, 2026
- Not be a university-level lecturer or faculty member
- Be willing to learn Japanese and adapt to life in Japan
- Be physically and mentally fit to study in Japan
- Be able to arrive in Japan within the period specified by MEXT
- Be willing to return to their home country after the scholarship and resume teaching
Applicants who are former MEXT scholarship recipients, currently enrolled in Japanese institutions as international students, or receiving other Japanese government scholarships are not eligible.
