VC University Venture Forward Scholarship 2026 — Full Tuition
The June 10, 2026 scholarship deadline for VC University Cohort 23 has closed, which makes this post your preparation framework for Cohort 24 — expected to open for applications in late 2026 based on the annual pattern of four cohorts per year. Funded by Venture Forward, the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), and corporate sponsors, this scholarship has awarded more than 780 full scholarships and 620 partial scholarships since 2019 across 22 sold-out cohorts, covering the $1,850 tuition cost of VC University, a joint educational programme with Berkeley Law Executive Education.
Where most scholarships evaluate GPA or degree level, this one evaluates only your proximity to a full-time career in venture capital and your membership in a group underrepresented in the VC industry — meaning a career changer actively pursuing a VC role today can outcompete a passive applicant with stronger credentials. Two scholarship tracks exist: the General Track for sector-agnostic VC aspirants and the Life Science Scholarship for those focused on biotech, pharma, medical devices, or digital health. The full scholarship adds a 3-month mentorship programme and dedicated scholarship office hours on top of the course access.

Scholarship Tracks That Apply to You
General Track (GT):
For aspiring VCs focused on any sector outside life sciences. If your investment interest spans software, fintech, consumer, climate, defence tech, or any other non-life-science vertical, this is your track.
Life Science Scholarship (LSS):
For aspiring VCs specifically targeting life science investing — defined as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, genetics, healthcare delivery services such as telemedicine and digital health, or technical fields driving transformation in these areas such as data science and engineering applied to health. LSS recipients receive the same core benefits as General Track recipients plus additional life sciences-targeted course modules, resources, and mentorship tailored to that sector. You need relevant educational or professional experience in life sciences to be a competitive LSS applicant.
The application form is identical for both tracks. The only decision is which track you indicate interest in.

What You Need to Know Before You Start
The application takes 30 to 45 minutes and has four sections:
- Personal Information — name, contact details
- Professional Information — current role, professional goals
- Short-Answer Questions — five questions, each capped at 500 characters (approximately 100 words)
- Demographic Information — background and financial need
The five short-answer questions for recent cohorts have been:
- When did you decide to pursue a career as a VC investor, and why?
- What steps have you taken toward pursuing a career as a VC investor?
- If you had your own pool of VC capital, what would you be investing in right now? Why?
- Looking back on your career 20 years from now, what does success look like?
- Which components of the VC University course and scholarship programme are most important to you? Why?

On AI use: Venture Forward reviews hundreds of applications per cohort. They state clearly that AI-augmented answers are immediately recognisable because they are generic and formulaic in ways that are consistent across applicants. Using AI to write or condense your answers makes selection less likely, not more. You will be asked to disclose whether you used AI tools. Applicants found to have been dishonest about this are disqualified. Write the answers yourself, in your own words, to the 500-character limit.
The strongest applications are specific, direct, and demonstrate clear alignment with the scholarship criteria — not general enthusiasm for venture capital.

Eligibility Requirements for the Scholarship
All of the following must be true at the time you apply. No exceptions are made to these rules:
- You must currently reside in the United States
- You must intend and be able to remain in the United States
- You must currently work as a VC investor, or be actively pursuing a full-time role as a VC investor
- You must intend to invest in startups based in the United States
- You must not have previously participated in any VC University programme
- You must not be employed by a scholarship sponsor
- You must submit your application by the deadline
Beyond the eligibility rules, the scholarship is specifically designed for candidates who:
Check Out: Human Rights Scholarship in Australia | Fully Funded
- Are from a group underrepresented in venture capital
- Would find it financially difficult to pay the $1,850 tuition themselves
- Are at the beginning of their VC career, not planning a career pivot in the distant future
- Would be active, engaged programme participants rather than passive certificate collectors
If your employer would reasonably cover this as a professional development cost, Venture Forward explicitly asks you to pursue that route before applying. The scholarship is intended for people who cannot afford the course without support — not as a discount for those who could pay.
What the VC University Full Scholarship Covers
Full scholarship recipients receive:
- Full tuition coverage — the $1,850 programme fee waived entirely
- Access to dedicated Scholarship Office Hours (SOH) hosted by VC professionals in an intimate small-group setting, beginning after the general course office hours conclude
- A curated 3-month mentorship programme, starting approximately 2 months after the course begins. Recipients are matched with VC mentors and meet regularly for career guidance, industry insights, and professional support
- Public recognition as a scholarship recipient
Partial scholarship recipients receive:
- A partial reduction in the $1,850 tuition
- Course access
- Note: dedicated Scholarship Office Hours and the mentorship programme are not offered to partial scholarship recipients
Both full and partial scholarships are awarded through the same application — Venture Forward determines the award level during review.

How to Apply for the VC University Venture Forward Scholarship
- Confirm you meet every eligibility requirement above. No exceptions are made, and submitting an ineligible application wastes your time and theirs
- If your employer could reasonably cover this cost as professional development, pursue that first. The scholarship is for candidates for whom cost is a genuine barrier
- When Cohort 24 opens — subscribe to updates at ventureforward.org so you receive the notification the moment applications open. Past cohorts have had application windows as short as one week
- Prepare your five short-answer responses in advance, in your own words, keeping each under 500 characters. Draft them somewhere else first so you are not writing under time pressure in the form itself
- Decide which track — General or Life Science — before starting the application
- Submit before the deadline. Venture Forward does not accept recommendations or supplemental outreach — your application alone is what is assessed
