Marshall University Scholarship in USA 2026 Details
This program is an M.S. assistantship in Biological Sciences based in the Herpetology and Applied Conservation Lab at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. The selected students will work on research focused on eastern hellbenders in West Virginia.
The position is part of an externally funded research project and is supervised by Dr. Jayme Waldron and Dr. Shane Welch. Research will be carried out in collaboration with state, federal, and NGO partners. Graduate students are expected to communicate and work with these partners during the project.
The minimum commitment for this program is three years, starting in August 2026. The work includes both field and graduate duties. Field work involves activities such as visual surveys using snorkeling, mark-recapture surveys, nest surveys, eDNA sampling, and processing digital images and videos.
Graduate duties include completing 32 hours of coursework including a thesis, teaching biology labs as a graduate teaching assistant for at least four semesters, participating in grant writing, and taking part in data analysis and report writing under guidance from the project leaders and senior lab staff.
The program leads to an M.S. in Biological Sciences and is structured around a thesis that fits within the funded research project.
