2025 UNESCO MAB Young Scientists Awards Details

The UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) program is an intergovernmental scientific program designed to enhance the relationship between people and their environments through a scientific approach. This initiative aims to improve livelihoods, economic development, and environmental sustainability.

The MAB program invests in a new generation of scientists under 35 years old through the MAB Young Scientists Awards. This is done to raise globally, well-trained and committed young people to tackle ecological and sustainability issues.

Established in 1989, these awards grant up to $5,000 to support research in ecosystems, biodiversity, and natural resources. They also offer young scientists from developing countries the opportunity to conduct comparative studies and use MAB research, project sites, and biosphere reserves for their research.

In collaboration with the Principality of Monaco, the MAB program introduced five additional annual awards focused on marine, island, and coastal ecosystems known as the MAB Young Scientists Awards – Prince Albert I of Monaco. This demonstrates UNESCO’s commitment to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, advancing research to offer solutions to the problems facing our oceans.
