NWAG Scholarship Program 2025 for Nigerian Women — $300 Award

The Nigerian Women Association of Georgia (NWAG) Scholarship Program 2025 is open to female undergraduate students currently enrolled in Nigerian universities. The deadline for this cycle was 31 May 2025. A total of 111 scholarships are awarded per cycle — three winners selected from each of Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT. Each winner receives a one-time award of $300.

What the Scholarship Covers

Eligibility Requirements for the NWAG Scholarship Program 2025 for Nigerian Women

You must meet all of the following to apply:

• You must be female
• You must be a Nigerian citizen and an indigene of a Nigerian state, with proof of your state of origin
• You must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a Nigerian university
• You must have an excellent academic record
• You must demonstrate financial need
• You must NOT be a final year student — final year students are explicitly excluded from this scholarship

If you are in your final year of study at the time of application, you are not eligible regardless of your grades or financial situation.

Required Documents

Prepare all of the following before you begin your application. Incomplete applications are not processed:

• Proof of state of origin — a letter of origin from your university or a letter from your local government office
• Two letters of recommendation from any two of the following: a church pastor or mosque imam, a village head, a local government chairperson, or a university lecturer or head of department
• One additional letter of recommendation from either the Dean of your Faculty or the Head of your Department — this is separate from the two letters above, making three recommendation letters in total
• Photocopy of your current university student ID card
• A recent passport photograph
• A financial need statement of not more than half a typed page explaining why you need this scholarship and why you should be selected
• A typewritten, double-spaced, two-page essay responding to the following question: “Analyse how technology can be used to address gender-based violence (GBV) in Nigeria, including facilitating reporting, access to services, and creating safe spaces for survivors. Evaluate current interventions and propose solutions for ensuring timely and effective assistance for GBV survivors.”

One practical warning: you need three separate recommendation letters from three different people — two from the first category and one specifically from a Dean or Head of Department. Many applicants confuse this and submit only two letters total. Read the requirement carefully and contact all three referees well before the deadline.

How to Apply for the NWAG Scholarship Program for Nigerian Women Award

1. Visit the official NWAG website to download the application form and the application guide.
2. Complete the application form in full. The form must be typewritten — handwritten applications are not accepted.
3. Write your financial need statement (half a typed page maximum) and your two-page double-spaced essay on technology and gender-based violence.
4. Gather all three recommendation letters, your student ID photocopy, proof of state of origin, and your passport photograph.
5. Submit your completed application and all supporting documents by one of the two methods below:
