UNU-IIGH Global Health PhD Fellowship Programme 2026 Details
The Global Health PhD Fellowship Programme is offered by UNU-IIGH.
The fellowship is designed to enrich doctoral training through direct engagement in global health policy processes within the UN system.
Fellows will:
- Be embedded within UNU-IIGH’s research team
- Work on policy-relevant research projects
- Contribute to applied research, policy analysis, and knowledge translation
Each Fellow will be assigned to a project under the mentorship of a UNU-IIGH researcher.
UNU-IIGH works across four main areas:
- Gender Equality and Intersectionality
- Power and Accountability
- Digital Health Security and Governance
- Climate Justice and Health
The Institute supports UN Member States, agencies, and programmes by translating research into policy.
The fellowship:
- Is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
- Lasts between 6 and 12 months
- Is offered under a consultant contract
- Is intended to complement the Fellow’s PhD research
- Requires completion of doctoral field work before starting
Fellows are expected to:
- Contribute to literature reviews and research analysis
- Support preparation of reports and journal manuscripts
- Co-lead the development of policy briefs or reports
- Support project planning and communications
- Present a seminar
- Submit a short reflection at the end of the fellowship
