MESPOM Erasmus Mundus Scholarship: Who is Eligible to Apply?
- You hold a first degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent, at least 3 years of full-time study) from a recognised university, or you will earn it before you enrol.
- Your degree is in environmental studies or a closely related field. Graduates in agriculture, social sciences, legal and administrative studies, economics, engineering or natural sciences are also considered if they show commitment to environmental challenges, usually through voluntary or professional work.
- Your Bachelor’s GPA is at least 3.5 on the 4.0 scale. Only your Bachelor’s GPA counts. The application system will not accept a GPA below 3.5, and giving false information can get you permanently excluded from CEU programmes.
- You can show English proficiency.
Most Nigerian universities use a 5.0 scale, so you must convert your grade to the 0.00 to 4.00 American scale. The source suggests Scholaro or WES iGPA for this.
English Language Requirement
If English is not your first language, you must submit a standardised test such as TOEFL. Send your TOEFL results to CEU using test code 0069. So check the eligibility page for accepted tests and scores.
You can ask for an exemption if your Bachelor’s or Master’s was taught exclusively in English. Make the written request in the application form. If your transcript or diploma does not say the programme was taught in English, upload a letter from your university confirming it. The admissions committee decides, and tells you after the first stage.
If you are applying for the Manchester track, the University of Manchester accepts only IELTS Academic, Pearson Academic, Cambridge English C1/C2 and TOEFL iBT (not Home Edition). A CEU exemption may not be accepted there, so you may have to retake a test. Manchester needs the result by 31 July before your UK period. Contact [email protected] to confirm.
If you do not have your test result by the deadline, you can upload a screenshot or other proof that you took the test and send the result later.

Required Application Documents
- Two letters of recommendation. You enter your referees’ contact details in the form, and the system emails them after you submit. They have 7 days to respond. Letters sent by email, fax or post are not accepted. Tell your referees to check their spam folder.
- Academic records. A scanned official Bachelor’s transcript and diploma in English. Use an official English translation if needed.
- Statement of purpose. Maximum 350 words covering the origin of your interest in environmental issues, how you hope to benefit from MESPOM, your career plans and your special interests.
- CV or resume. Include your publications, if any.
- Proof of English proficiency.
- Active email address. Check it often during the process.
- Proof of residency. Only selected applicants are asked for it.
If you are in your final year and have no diploma yet, upload your current official transcript and a certificate of enrolment showing your expected graduation date. You must graduate before the academic year at CEU begins.
