What the GLOCAL Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Covers

Scholarship holders do not pay tuition fees. Part of the fee is covered by the Erasmus Mundus scholarship and the rest is paid by the GLOCAL consortium. The scholarship includes:

  • Full tuition coverage, including the deposit
  • Full insurance coverage
  • An optional contribution to travel and installation costs (visas, residence permits, temporary accommodation and so on)
  • A monthly allowance for the whole two years

You can choose how you receive the money:

  1. Option one: Three advance payments of €1,000 each. The first is paid in August before semester one starts, the second in May at the end of Year 1, and the third in September at the start of Year 2. These are deducted from your total award, so your monthly allowance becomes €1,275 for the two years.
  2. Option two: €1,400 every month for the two years, with no separate travel or installation payment.

You will pick your option in the pre-arrival Welcome Pack after you accept the scholarship.

Number of Scholarships

The programme has 60 regular scholarships over four editions. To keep a fair spread across the world, no more than 6 scholarships go to one nationality over the four editions. There are also up to 20 additional scholarships for certain regions chosen by the European Commission (Regions 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11). The 6-per-nationality rule does not apply to these. Check the Erasmus+ Programme Guide (pages 34 and 35) to see which region your country falls under.

  • Two references on headed paper
  • Transcripts of all university studies, with official English translation if needed
  • Degree certificates, with official English translation if needed

  • Supporting personal statement (maximum 1,200 words)

For the references, each one must be dated within 24 months of your application, on institutional headed paper or with an official stamp, and signed with an electronic or wet-ink signature (a typed name is not accepted). How to Apply for the GLOCAL Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

  1. Choose your track. Read the programme overview and pick one track.
  2. Check the entry requirements. Confirm your degree, grade and English proof.
  3. Gather your documents. Get your references signed, and scan your transcripts, certificates and passport.
  4. Write your personal statement. Keep to 1,200 words and answer every point listed above.
  5. Apply through the University of Glasgow online system. Fill the Scholarship form (not the Self-Funding form) and upload everything there. Emailed documents are not accepted.
  6. Get your offer status right. If your status is “holding for documents” on 14 January 2027, you will not be considered for a scholarship.

How Selection Works

The consortium reviews and ranks all scholarship applications using these weights:

  • Personal Statement: 40%
  • Academic Merit: 30%
  • Other (relevant research, professional experience and so on): 20%
  • Quality of References: 10%

Top-ranked applicants get the scholarships, and a reserve list is kept in case a winner withdraws. Results are announced in April 2027, and everyone put forward for a scholarship receives an offer of admission after that.

If you want to appeal a scholarship decision, you have 14 days and you can only do it if the selection process was defective or unfair. Send the email to [email protected] with the subject “GLOCAL scholarship appeal”.
