About the MTCP Scholarship
The Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme is the Malaysian government’s vehicle for supporting human resource development across developing countries. Through the MTCP Scholarship, graduates from eligible recipient countries pursue full-time Master’s degrees at Malaysian universities, with the expectation that they return home and apply what they have learned to their country’s development.
Applications for the 2026 cycle opened on 4 May 2026 and close on 12 June 2026. Priority is given to programmes in development-relevant fields: Information and Communication Technology, Economy and Trade, STEM, Food Security and Agriculture Technology, Islamic Finance, Law, Public Administration and Policy Studies, and Sustainable and Environmental Science. Nursing, Medicine, and Clinical Pharmacy programmes are explicitly excluded — if your intended field falls into one of these areas, this scholarship is not an option for you.
For Nigerian applicants, the most time-sensitive part of this process is securing your university offer letter first. The MTCP application itself cannot proceed without it, and Malaysian university admission cycles have their own processing times that run independently of the scholarship deadline.

Required Documents
All documents must be uploaded in PDF format. Prepare the following:
- Copy of your international passport
- Academic transcripts and certificates
- English language proficiency results (IELTS, TOEFL, or proof of English-medium instruction)
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Medical report form
- Two recommendation letters
- Valid university offer letter or proof of application to a Malaysian university
- Official explanation of your university’s grading system, if your CGPA is not clearly stated on your transcript
A practical warning on the recommendation letters: contact your referees as soon as you begin preparing your application, not after you have submitted everything else. Recommendation letters often take the longest to arrange because referees need time to write a considered letter, and an incomplete document set at submission stage means your application will not proceed to review.

Application Deadline
12 June 2026
No submission time is published for this deadline. Malaysia Time (MYT, UTC+8) is seven hours ahead of West Africa Time (WAT, UTC+1). If the portal closes at midnight MYT on 12 June, that is 5:00 PM WAT on 12 June. Given that the university offer letter is a precondition for the scholarship application, do not wait until June to begin your university application — start that process now, since university admission timelines run on their own schedule and cannot be compressed to fit the scholarship deadline.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the MTCP Scholarship fully funded?
Yes. The scholarship covers full tuition fees for your Master’s programme, a monthly living allowance, and a one-time return economy-class flight ticket to Malaysia. There are no published figures for the living allowance amount — confirm the current rate directly with the MTCP scholarship office once shortlisted.
Can Nigerian students apply for the MTCP Scholarship?
Yes. Nigeria is one of the countries listed on the official MTCP recipient country list. Nigerian applicants must meet the same requirements as all other applicants: a Second Class Upper degree or CGPA of 3.0, an English language proficiency score, a medical report, and an offer letter or proof of application from an approved Malaysian university.
What is the CGPA or grade requirement for the MTCP Scholarship?
You need at least a Second Class Upper (Honours) degree, or a CGPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent). If your university uses a different grading scale, you must submit an official explanation of that grading system alongside your transcript so the scholarship committee can assess your eligibility correctly.
Do I need a university offer letter before I apply for the MTCP Scholarship?
Yes — this is a precondition, not a parallel step. You must apply for admission to an approved Malaysian university and obtain at least a conditional offer letter before you submit your MTCP scholarship application. Without this, your scholarship application cannot proceed.
Which fields of study are excluded from the MTCP Scholarship?
Nursing, Medicine, and Clinical Pharmacy programmes are not eligible under this scholarship. Priority fields include Information and Communication Technology, Economy and Trade, STEM, Food Security and Agriculture Technology, Islamic Finance, Law, Public Administration and Policy Studies, and Sustainable and Environmental Science.
How competitive is the MTCP Scholarship, and what happens after I apply?
No acceptance rate is published for this scholarship. After submission, shortlisted applicants are invited to an online interview. No interview date is specified at this stage — applicants who pass the document review will be contacted directly by the MTCP scholarship office.
