About the West Africa Constituency
The Rhodes Scholarship, established in 1903, is the world’s oldest international scholarship programme. - General applicants: 18–24 on 1 October 2026
- Medical, dental, pharmaceutical, law, or engineering students (to allow for internship completion): 18–25
- Late graduates: under 27, having completed your first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2025
Academic achievement: A completed undergraduate degree with a strong record, normally at least a First Class Honours degree or equivalent. For Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy, a Distinction in at least three of: Medicine & Surgery, Pathology, Pharmacology, Gynaecology, or Paediatrics.
A detail worth knowing: your chances improve with an Honours degree from a university outside your own country, or Master’s-level study within your country — with an explicit exception for applicants currently studying in Nigeria or Ghana, and for some medicine students in certain countries.
English language proficiency: meeting Oxford’s standard requirements — a waiver request if your studies were conducted in English, or a recognised IELTS/TOEFL score otherwise.
