About the Moroccan Government Scholarship

Morocco sits in North Africa at the intersection of Arab, Amazigh, African, and European cultural traditions, and its higher education system reflects that diversity — running programmes in French, Arabic, and in some institutions English, across dozens of public universities and technical institutes.

The Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) is the government body that administers Morocco’s academic cooperation agreements with countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, offering places in public Moroccan institutions at no tuition cost to foreign students in most programmes. You can explore the full directory of participating institutions for the 2025-2026 cycle, and for specific programme listings, the Ministry of Higher Education maintains a searchable database. The Ministry of Education in Saint Lucia manages the local side of this agreement, with applications submitted through the Human Resource Development Unit rather than directly to AMCI.

What the Moroccan Government Scholarship Covers

The scholarship provides:

  • A monthly stipend of 1,750 Moroccan Dirhams (approximately US$175), paid every two months at branches of the Banque Populaire, on presentation of your passport
  • One one-way ticket to Morocco at the beginning of your studies, and one return ticket at the end
  • An insurance policy covering reimbursement of medical expenses, medical care, emergency evacuation to Saint Lucia in the event of serious illness, and repatriation in the event of death on Moroccan territory
  • French language tuition at the International Language Centre in Rabat, if required, before your main programme begins
  • Access to subsidized university restaurant meals, subject to availability
  • On-campus university accommodation, subject to availability, for a small contribution toward rent, for a maximum of 3 years. If campus housing isn’t available, a supplemental housing allowance of 500 Dirhams (approximately US$50) is added to your stipend

The stipend is a living allowance only. It does not cover enrollment fees, boarding, local transportation, or other study-related expenses, which remain your responsibility. Training at public Moroccan universities is free, but certain technical institutions may require the purchase of specific equipment or charge related fees.

Master’s and doctoral students may also qualify for a separate lump-sum grant toward the cost of printing their dissertation or thesis, on submission of a copy of the work and certified proof of completion.
