1. History and Archaeology PhD Scholarship
This scholarship is open to applicants in History, Heritage Studies, and Archaeology. Proposals should align with the ‘communities and cultures’ theme and focus on a modern historical topic. Possible themes include trauma, social memory, and the wounds of nations. Exceptional proposals beyond these themes will also be considered if they align with supervisory expertise.

2. Law and Politics PhD Scholarship
This scholarship invites proposals across Law, Policing, and Criminal Justice that demonstrate strong conceptual grounding alongside clear applied and societal relevance. Proposals should align with one or more of CCCU’s REF themes:
- International Law and Criminal Justice
- Vulnerability
- Policing and Criminal Justice in the 21st Century
Areas of particular interest include global justice and international law, technology and AI in policing, vulnerability and access to justice, policing reform and institutional change, and crime, inequality, and social justice. Strong interdisciplinary proposals that cut across these areas are especially welcomed.

3. Theology and Religious Studies PhD Scholarship
This scholarship invites applications on the theme of Sustaining Sacred Space — a theme that can be interpreted broadly. Possible proposals include Theology of Heritage, Religion in the Public Square, Religion and the Environment, Theology of Sacred Landscape, the history of sacred spaces, and landscape and spirituality.
CCCU’s experienced team can offer supervision in Anglican Theology, Jewish Studies, Art and Theology, Practical and Applied Theology, Contemporary Spirituality, and Ecotheology.

Eligibility Requirements for the CCC University Scholarships 2026/2027 in UK
All three scholarships require:
- Both an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree (MA or equivalent) in a relevant subject or related discipline
- All non-native English speakers must be soundly and demonstrably proficient in written and spoken English without artificial assistance
- Must have applied for both a place on the PhD programme AND the scholarship by the scholarship application deadline
- Must be available to begin studies on a full-time basis in September/October 2026
- Must live in the UK during studies, within commutable distance to a Canterbury Christ Church University campus
- Must be willing to undertake 150 hours of teaching-related work, normally in years 2 and 3 of study
History and Archaeology specific:
- Must hold an undergraduate degree and an MA in History, Archaeology, Heritage, or a related discipline
- Proposal must align with the ‘communities and cultures’ theme focusing on a modern historical topic
Law and Politics specific:
- Must hold both an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in a relevant subject
- Must demonstrate a strong understanding of the literature surrounding their proposed area of research
- Must show a competent understanding of the legal frameworks relevant to their proposed area of research
- Proposal must align with one or more of CCCU’s REF themes: International Law and Criminal Justice, Vulnerability, or Policing and Criminal Justice in the 21st Century
Theology and Religious Studies specific:
- Must hold an undergraduate degree and an MA in Theology and Religious Studies or a related discipline
